One week of shortened sleep can drop testosterone by 10–15 percent in young men. Extending sleep improves next-day physical and cognitive performance. Consistent sleep is the recovery window that lets training adaptations and nutritional inputs actually take hold.

These systems talk to one another. Poor sleep raises cortisol and lowers testosterone, which makes muscle recovery harder even if protein intake is high. Dehydration impairs cognition and raises perceived effort during exercise. High stress disrupts sleep, which then worsens hormone balance the next day.
